The Office of Aged Care Quality and Compliance has issued an Industry feedback alert on basic home fire safety for Australian Government subsidised providers of home care services.

The alert has been issued to make home care services in all jurisdictions aware of findings made by the Victorian Coroner and Deputy State Coroner. The findings relate to two separate inquests into fire fatalities in care recipients’ homes.

Industry feedback alerts outline an issue, trend or risk we have identified through an analysis of our data and other sources. They provide suggestions of areas that you may wish to review within your service. Alerts are not advice or directions.

Under the new funding arrangement people may also contact the Aged Care Complaints Scheme (the Scheme) if they have a concern about a Commonwealth HACC service. The Scheme will encourage people to raise their concerns with the service provider in the first instance, unless a service recipient’s health or safety is at risk. Continue reading »
